There are no roads to get to Stehekin, and the most common method of getting to Stehekin is to take on of the Lady of the Lake passenger boats or Stehekin Ferry from the town of Chelan, WA.” Then add a link to Stehekin Ferry (Lady of the Lake link already there.

You may also travel the lake in your own private boat (fuel is available in Stehekin). There are a few private pilots who bring their planes into the Stehekin airstrip.

In the summer, another option is to hike in on one of the many trails that lead here – see the Backpacking section for details.

WHAT’S THE WEATHER LIKE?
In the springtime, we usually experience windy conditions and the mornings/evenings are still cool with the days warming up to 50-70 degrees. Summer is very comfortable for most – late July and August start to get warm (80 and 90 degrees is normal); that is when most folks enjoy playing in the river and lake. Fall is traditionally magical with its crisp, clear days and cold mornings and evenings. Winter finds the valley with an average snow level of 4-6 feet, and temperatures can drop to below zero. We recommend you keep weather conditions in mind no matter what time of year you plan to visit. Please do inquire about the weather…although we can’t predict the weather, we can tell you how it’s been lately. Though it’s rare, we’ve even experienced snow conditions in summer, especially at the higher elevations. The rooms at the Lodge have heaters and fans, but no air conditioning.

If you are traveling by private boat to Stehekin and are unaware of the moody winds of Lake Chelan, we highly recommend being prepared to pull in to a safe harbor, if necessary, due to high winds or a breakdown. Be prepared with food, shelter options, sleeping bags and any medications just in case. It’s also a good idea to have a flare or something bright to get the attention of the passenger boat in case you are in any trouble.
